Im a misguided bloke who thought film making might be a good laugh so after making a couple of wacky short super8 films, decided to make a super8 feature film in my spare time.
4 years later its nearly finished, and Ive learned that its actually a very hard job, for which you need the constitution of a mountain -
and that the best 'equipment' a film-aker can have is reliable and patient friends.
Preproduction a good story and good food are EVERYTHING!

Name's Alex, 18, from Tempio, Italy.

Next year i will finish college aqnd i'll try to get a course in a film school.

At the moment i made everything is possible. I made a bunch of Hi8 movies with friends since i was 14 and the last of this movies, "CREEP OUT" was shown at the Tirrenia Film Festival just before the projection of horror cult classics like EVIL DEAD and BRAINDEAD. Unfortunately i wasn't there but the guys who made the festival assured me that was a good projection.

I also made a movie with a bunch of friends that won a local competion and that gave us the opportunity to fly in Portugal for a week.

At the moment i'm working on a documentary for a turist association for the 20th anniversary of a fire that destroyed half of the town where i live. And it has a lot of cool images of the event that convinced me to take the job.

I just finished high school, I'm 18, and I'm going to study Media and Culture (thats a new name for Film and Television Science) at the University of Amsterdam.

I'm currently editing a surfing video we made in France. (Spend two weeks in Biscarosse, left 2 days before the storm broke out, if you've heard the news). I'm also writing a feature, but it slowed down with the start of the vacation, while i actually intended to do the opposite.

Anyways, I have only done no-budget amateur work, mainly for fun with my friends. I really want to do some better work, but I find myself having too less time for things like that.

I took a GCSE in media Studies, liked it so I did an A-level in it, first films were on big VHS cameras, made that many mum and dad got me a VHS-C camera for Xmas and made more on that. I entered a few films into festivals and one got picked for the young Co-op Film festival. I did well in my A-levels so I went to the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and did a film Degree where I moved to mini DV and got a Mini DV camera of my own. Since the Degree I have been trying to pay off my uni debts by working as a projectionist, in my spare time I write, I have just finished my fist super16 short the Jumper, and I am now looking for employment in the media/film world, while writing my next project!
That?s me.
Cheers

Well, thanks to everyone who replied to this thread- it's interesting to see the many different levels of experience that everyone has.

Anyone else care to gloat about their experience in the world of film-making?

Im Andy, 18, been reading the boards of the internet, and various websites (ie. Exposure eejits guide etc), for about 5 years, have always wanted a video camera. And ive now saved up and bought one this year, a digital-8 one. Mainly ive been pissing about with it making little animations, and little skit films that never quite get finished due to low battery, it getting to dark and then a loss of motivation from my friend. Though i am getting practice at editing on this computer thing.

Ive just finished doing my A2 exams in Film Studies, Psychology and English Language (i dropped media after AS cause it was a rubbish course).

Ive got a killer film idea im working on for my first ACTUAL film, as im off to uni (hopefully) in september, id like to think ill meet likeminded people to mess about with.

Me and G have made such immortal classics such as: Phonebox 2: Mobile*, Man sitting in road, and The Lego Man, and the unfinished noir: Bugsy Malone III - PI

so there you go

* guess which film this is based on...
